Mold And Its Effects On Your Health

Mold And Its Effects On Your Health Mold doesn’t only destroy your belongings, it can also destroy your health. Mold is difficult to see and difficult to remedy before it’s grown out of control, and when mold growth is allowed to spread, spores are released into the air causing you to feel the effects of its presence. The funny thing about mold is that many of the most common varieties will affect some people dramatically, and others not at all, so it can be really tough to determine if mold spores are really causing the health effects you’re feeling.

The first place you’re like to feel the effects of mold on your health is your upper respiratory system. The mold spores will act as allergens, and the feeling you’ll feel is similar to dealing with seasonal allergies or coming down with a cold. You may feel a sore throat coming on, experience a bit of wheezing, or develop a nasty cough, but with no actual cold coming on or not during your seasonal allergy time.

On top of upper respiratory symptoms, you could also experience nasal symptoms, and these will include a runny or stuffy nose, as well as dry painful sinuses and headache. As mold spores get into the sinuses through the nostrils, they will irritate and inflame the sinuses causing discomfort or pain as well as general sinus irritation. There is no real way to avoid spores getting into the sinuses through the nostrils, as they make their way inside as you breathe.

In some instances, especially for those with existing heart or lung conditions, the effects of the mold spores can be a bit more serious. It’s not rare for mold to exasperate asthma conditions enough to result in hospitalization, one big reason why mold should always be taken very seriously!
