3 Signs You Have Mold In Your Home

3 Signs You Have Mold In Your HomeThere’s a lot more to your house or apartment than just the areas you normally see. There are spaces between every wall, spaces above and below your furniture, cabinets, and large appliances, and air ducts in every room. Just because you can’t see mold growing anywhere doesn’t mean it’s not there, and in fact most professionals expect a certain amount of harmless mold growth within just a few years of a building’s construction.

However, this growth can get out of hand under the right conditions, and if that happens, you should contact a professional service to deal with the problem. Here are three signs that may indicate that you have a mold problem:

Mold Allergy Symptoms

The most obvious sign of a mold problem comes from your body’s reaction to excess spores in the air. Common symptoms include a persistent headache, sneezing, coughing, and a runny nose, which means it could easily be mistaken for a different allergy or a cold. However, you can be reasonably sure it’s a mold allergy if your symptoms disappear soon after leaving your home.

A Mold Smell

If your eyes don’t catch anything, try using your nose instead. Many types of mold let off a musty odor which is hard to mistake for anything else. If there’s enough mold around for you to smell, then you definitely have a problem whether you can see it or not.

Water Leaks Or Damage

Mold requires a certain amount of moisture in the air to grow, and so if you can find evidence that water is getting into places it shouldn’t, such as a leaky faucet drain or along the walls of your basement, then chances are good that mold or some other infestation (or both) is either in the area or soon will be.

If you have a mold problem or if you’d like to look into waterproofing your basement or crawlspace to avoid having one in the future, AA Action Waterproofing can help. We’ve been helping clients in and around the state of Maryland for over 27 years with both issues, and you can contact us anytime to ask for a free appraisal.
