Is A Mold Spot Treatment Enough?

Black mold can provide a significant danger to your home. Sadly, mold can form quite easily and quite quickly. In fact, this toxic and living organism can begin establishing a colony within your home in as little as 48 hours.

So how can you prevent this from happening?

First, you must try to identify the source of the mold in question. In fact, your local basement waterproofing company will be able to perform a free inspection to help you locate the source of any mold growth.

For a short term solution, using a mold spot treatment can help to reduce the risk posed by black mold before you consider any long term solutions. In order to do so, you will need to:

Firstly, you will need a bottle of hydrogen peroxide. This can be bought from any local pharmacy or grocery store along with an empty spray bottle and a dust mask. Next, you will need to fill up the spray bottle with a solution made up of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and 97 percent water. With your dust mask on, make sure to spray a generous amount of the solution directly to the affected areas of your home. After you let the solution sit for around 20 minutes or so, use a firm sponge to scrub vigorously. If desired, you can add more of the solution while scrubbing.

If you repeat this process once a week for the next 2 weeks, you will have significantly cut down on the mold in your home.

Still, it is important to understand that this is not a permanent solution to your mold. While it can temporary solve the problem, you will need to begin planning for the long term to ensure the health and safety of your home. Since mold is caused by moisture, there are a few things you should check in order to cut down on any leakage or moisture entering your home including:

  • No leaks in any of the appliances or plumbing fixtures
  • A proper seal around the windows and doors
  • Crawl space vents are closed
  • A proper seal over the sump or sewage basin
