Different Types Of Mold And Their Effects

Different Types Of Mold And Their EffectsWhen water or moisture finds its way into your home, a perfect environment for mold is created, and with thousands of different types of mold out there, it can be difficult to determine just which types of mold you are seeing in your home. At AA Action Waterproofing, we can help to test your mold to determine the type present, remove and eradicate the mold, and waterproof your home to stop subsequent mold growth from occurring, as our professionals use their experience to get your home mold free once more.

A few different types of mold commonly found within homes in the PA, NJ, MD, DE, VA, and DC areas are:

  • Cladosporium – Have you ever seen a type of growth that looks somewhat like a sprinkling of black or green pepper? If you have, you may be dealing with a type of mold called Cladosporium. This type of mold is often found on painted surfaces, within air ducts, and on the backs of toilets or sinks, and while it is considered non-toxic, it can have some pretty comfortable effects. To those sensitive to Cladosporium, exposure can result in allergy like symptoms including runny nose, throat irritation, or watery and itchy eyes.
  • White mold – White mold isn’t actually a type of mold in and of itself, but more of a type of life stage for mold. Many different types of mold may first show themselves as a white mold substance, and this means that it is in the very beginning stages of its life. White mold is the easiest type of mold to remove, and we at AA Action Waterproofing recommend calling a professional for removal as soon as this type of mold is seen!
  • Stachybotrys Atra – Stachybotrys Atra is more commonly known as black mold, and this is the scary type of mold that can really cause some adverse health effects if one is exposed to it. Black mold is a common type of mold found in many basements where water or moisture has been allowed to seep through, and this is a type of mold that should be taken care of and removed immediately. Exposure to black mold can cause some pretty serious respiratory symptoms, such as wheezing or a tightening of the chest, and these can even lead to emergency situations for those with asthma or other respiratory conditions. If black mold is suspected, we recommend calling in the professionals immediately for eradication, and then waterproofing the home to avoid mold regrowth.
